The extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma usually affects the deep tissues of the extremities with the thigh being the most common site. Most patient are between the 4th and 5th decade. The lesion is slow growing and may be associated with pain and tenderness. It arises within the muscles or in less than 20% in the subcutis. It is well circumscribed usually about 10cm when discovered, and has a fibrous pseudocapsule. It may be hemorrhagic. Histology: Multinodular, with abundant myxoid matrix. Tumor cells are in chords or in clusters with eosinophilic cytoplasm, and hyperchromatic nuclei. Mitoses are low. Immunohistochemistry: CD57+, EMA+, GAFP -, S-100 weak.
